Bedroom Furniture Sets from China: Beds, Dressers, and Nightstands Sourced Factory Direct

Bedroom furniture sets are one of the highest-volume furniture export categories out of Foshan. The complete bedroom package, including bed frame, wardrobe, dresser, nightstands, and sometimes a TV unit, is something Chinese factories can produce in matched sets at prices that leave local furniture retailers with very little room to compete on value. Developers, hospitality groups, retailers, and interior designers all source bedroom furniture from Foshan regularly, and the infrastructure for exporting it is extremely well developed.

What a Foshan Bedroom Furniture Set Typically Includes

A standard bedroom set ordered from a Foshan factory usually comprises a bed frame with headboard, two nightstands, a four to six door wardrobe, and a dresser with mirror. Optional additions include a blanket box at the foot of the bed, a TV cabinet, and a vanity desk with stool. The pieces are designed to match in finish, hardware, and proportion so that the completed room has a cohesive, designed-in feel. This is important for developers and hotel operators who need a consistent aesthetic across multiple rooms.

Materials and Construction Standards

The most common construction for mid-range bedroom furniture from Foshan uses moisture-resistant particle board or MDF carcasses with melamine, PVC foil, or lacquered finishes. Solid wood bedroom furniture is also widely produced, with rubber wood, Malaysian oak, and more expensive North American white oak all available depending on budget. Drawer runners are an important quality indicator. Metal undermount runners with soft-close function are standard on better products. Plastic runners indicate a budget product and should be avoided if longevity matters. Check all drawer and door hinges in the sample before approving production.

Style Options Available

Contemporary minimalist styles with clean lines and matte finishes are the most popular export category right now. Scandinavian-influenced light wood designs sell strongly in European markets. American transitional style with dark walnut or espresso finishes sells well in the US and Middle East. French provincial and neo-classical ornate styles are produced for markets in the Gulf region and Southeast Asia where more decorative interiors are preferred. Most factories can reproduce styles from reference photos or designer mood boards with reasonable accuracy.

Bed sizes are not the same in every country

This is the single most expensive mistake in bedroom furniture importing, and it catches experienced buyers. A bed described as “king” in a Chinese factory is not the same object as a king in the United Kingdom, which is not the same as a king in the United States, which is different again in Australia and across continental Europe.

The consequence is not academic. Your customer buys the bed, buys a mattress locally, and the mattress does not fit. Or it fits with a gap at the foot that looks like a fault. Either way it comes back to you.

The fix is simple and it is your responsibility, not the factory’s. Specify every bed in millimetres, internal frame dimension, not by name. Then confirm those millimetres against the mattress sizes actually sold in your destination market before production starts. Never accept a size name on a quotation without a number beside it.

Slats, centre rails and the sag complaint

Most warranty complaints on imported beds come down to the base rather than the frame. Three things decide it.

  • Slat spacing. Wide gaps let a foam or pocket sprung mattress sag between slats, and many mattress warranties are voided by spacing beyond a stated maximum. Ask for the spacing figure and check it against the mattress you expect customers to use.
  • Centre support. Any double width bed needs a centre rail with legs to the floor. Factories omit this to save cost and it is the direct cause of a bed that bows in the middle.
  • Slat material. Sprung laminated timber slats behave far better than flat pine strips and cost very little more.

Matching a set is harder than it sounds

A bedroom set is only a set if the pieces match. Colour and grain vary between production runs, and a bed made in March will not reliably match a chest of drawers made in June from a different batch of veneer or a different lacquer mix.

Order the whole set in one production run. If you sell sets as individual pieces and expect customers to add to them later, be aware that you cannot promise a match on a reorder unless you hold stock from the original run. The practical answer is to buy the full set depth up front rather than reordering piecemeal.

Drawer construction is where cost hides

Dressers and nightstands are judged by their drawers. Look for solid drawer boxes rather than stapled thin board, dovetail or dowelled corners rather than staples alone, a captured drawer bottom rather than one pinned underneath, and full extension undermount runners rather than side mounted rollers. None of this is visible in a product photograph and all of it is obvious to a customer within a week.

Full set, bed plus 4 pieces USD 280 to 480 USD 550 to 980 USD 1,200 to 2,800

Approximate FOB ranges. Frame material, drawer construction, runner quality and finish account for nearly all of the spread.

What goes wrong

  • Size mismatch with local mattresses. The big one. Specify in millimetres.
  • No centre support on double and larger beds.
  • Set pieces from different batches that do not match in daylight.
  • Headboard fixings designed for Chinese assembly conventions that confuse installers elsewhere. Ask for clear illustrated instructions.
  • Mirror breakage on dressing tables. These need their own inner carton and corner protection, always.
  • Assembled dimensions that will not turn a stairwell. Check before ordering, not after.
