Bar Stools from China: Sourcing for Hospitality and Residential Markets

Bar stools are a high-volume furniture export category from Foshan, ordered by hospitality importers, kitchen showrooms, home furnishings retailers, and restaurant fit-out companies worldwide. The manufacturing cluster in Shunde district of Foshan produces bar stools in metal, wood, rattan, and upholstered constructions across every price point and design style currently on the market. Buying directly from these factories gives you access to commercial-grade product at prices that retail outlets in your market simply cannot match, and the customization options available let you specify exactly the height, material, and finish that suits your application.

Counter Height vs Bar Height

The first thing to get right when ordering bar stools from China is the seat height. Counter height stools sit at 60 to 65cm seat height and work with kitchen islands and bench heights of 90cm. Bar height stools sit at 70 to 75cm and work with traditional bar counters at 105 to 110cm height. Getting this wrong for a large hospitality order creates a problem that is expensive to fix. Confirm the exact seat height required for your countertop height and specify this clearly in your purchase order.

Styles Produced in Foshan

Industrial-style bar stools on powder-coated steel frames with wooden or upholstered seats are one of the most consistently popular export categories. Rattan and woven seagrass bar stools on metal frames work for coastal, Scandinavian, and bohemian interior styles. Swivel bar stools with gas-lift height adjustment are practical for kitchen islands and home bar areas where flexibility is valued. Fully upholstered bar stools in velvet, faux leather, or performance fabric on metal or wooden frames suit more formal bar and restaurant environments. Solid wood carved bar stools in traditional and farmhouse styles complete the range.

Footrest Design and Comfort

The footrest is a critical comfort and durability element in a bar stool. A well-positioned footrest at the right height allows the sitter to rest their feet comfortably, which reduces fatigue significantly over a longer sitting period. A poorly placed or thin-wall footrest will show wear quickly in commercial use. Check the footrest position and material in any sample stool before approving bulk production.

Source Bar Stools with Agent Foshan

We source bar stools for hospitality companies, kitchen retailers, and furniture importers from verified Foshan factories. We manage sample approval, quality inspection, and logistics to your destination. Tell us your height, style, material preferences, and quantity for a sourcing proposal.

Get the height relationship right or the stool is unusable

Bar stools fail in rooms far more often than they fail structurally, and it is nearly always a measurement problem. The rule that matters is the gap between the seat and the underside of the counter.

Aim for roughly 250mm to 300mm of clearance between the top of the seat and the underside of the worktop. Less and knees hit the counter, more and the user perches uncomfortably. Since kitchen island worktops and bar counters sit at different heights, counter height and bar height stools are not interchangeable.

Before ordering, get the actual finished height from floor to underside of the counter at the destination, and subtract. Do not work from the worktop surface, because a thick stone top eats clearance. This one calculation prevents most bar stool returns.

Gas lift stools are a safety component

Height adjustable stools use the same class of gas cylinder as office chairs, and the same rules apply. The cylinder should come from a recognised maker, be rated for the intended load, and carry its class marking.

Cheap cylinders on bar stools fail in two ways. They sink slowly under load, which is annoying, or they lose their seal and drop suddenly, which is a genuine injury risk in a commercial venue. Ask for the cylinder brand and class, and for commercial orders ask for the load test documentation. Confirm the applicable standard for your market with your own compliance adviser.

The footrest takes more abuse than the seat

Every person who sits on a bar stool puts their feet on the rest, and they scuff, kick and drag it constantly. On a plated steel footrest, the plating wears through at the front centre within months in a busy venue and then rusts.

For commercial use, specify a stainless steel footrest rather than plated mild steel, or a replaceable footrest ring. It costs a little more and it is the difference between a stool that still looks acceptable in year two and one that visibly does not. For swivel stools, ask whether the footrest turns with the seat or stays fixed, because a fixed ring is far more durable.

Swivel mechanisms and floor protection

A swivel plate is a wear item under commercial use. Ask for the bearing type and the tested rotation cycles, and whether there is a return to centre function, which venues generally prefer because stools end up facing the bar rather than scattered.

Underneath, glides matter as much as they do on chairs. A metal stool base dragged across a timber or polished concrete floor will mark it permanently. Specify the glide material to suit the floor and order spares, because they are lost constantly.

What goes wrong

  • Wrong height for the counter. The most common failure, and entirely preventable with one measurement.
  • Gas cylinders sinking under load within months.
  • Footrest plating worn through and rusting in a commercial venue.
  • Base too small for the seat height, making a tall stool feel unstable. Ask for the base diameter.
  • Glides missing or wrong, marking a new floor immediately.
  • Weld quality at the footrest to leg junction, which takes the most repeated stress.
