Crystal is a spectrum, not a yes or no
Chandelier quotations describe everything as crystal and the material underneath varies enormously. In broad terms you will be offered ordinary pressed glass at the bottom, machine cut optical glass in the middle, and high lead content hand cut crystal at the top.
The differences are visible side by side and invisible in a photograph. Higher quality material has better clarity, sharper facet edges and more refraction, which is the sparkle people are actually paying for. Cheaper pressed glass looks slightly cloudy, has softer facets and throws far less light.
Ask what the material is by name, ask whether facets are machine cut or moulded, and always approve a physical sample under light rather than on a screen. Get the finished weight in kilograms before you sell the fitting, and pass it to whoever is doing the installation so the structure above can be checked and reinforced if necessary. For anything genuinely heavy, ask whether the factory supplies a mounting plate rated for the load, and expect the installer to source appropriate structural fixings locally.
Also check the drop length and whether it is adjustable, because a chandelier specified for a double height entrance is very different from the same design in a room with a standard ceiling.

What goes wrong
